Gula Java - Eight of the Best - Part 2

I have made a subjective choice of eight mills, spread along the length of the island for a more detailed look at individual operation. They all have a higher than average proportion of steam powered machinery and I have not included pictures of them in the general survey of operations.

Each, if the mill survives, has some potential as a tourist destination as an awareness of their importance as part of Java's industrial heritage grows. I make no secret of my own personal favourites, Olean and Gondang Baru, which I believe should be kept as museums when they are finally defeated by the economics of running 19th and early 20th century machines well into the 21st century.

In order to give as full a picture of each mill's operation as possible, some non-steam powered machinery is necessarily included, together with images which place the stationary engines in their context and bring the mills to life.
