IMPORTANT - The text refers to the situation pertaining in 2002-3. In general, I have made no attempt to document changes since then although by the time of my last visit in 2010, they were relatively minor. Since when a number of mills have ceased operation. There are two main sections, the first introduces the processes involved in traditional sugar cane production, the second takes a closer look at eight particular mills. For each of these mills, I have included process flow sheets which will assist understanding of the pictures. While I am reasonably certain that no two mills shown on this CD-ROM use exactly the same process, they will help readers understand the processes at the other mills. |
