Jan Willem van Dorp had two visits to Jatiroto in 1983 and 1984. By then steam operation there was extremely limited and most of his time was spent at Semboro. Fortunately, he was able to stay at the two pesanggrahan (guest houses) which allowed him to start early and guaranteed that he could go out to the fields and not get stuck after public transport ceased running. I am delighted to present his pictures of Semboro as the quantity and quality are far superior to anything I achieved. His aim was to photograph as many Mallets at work as possible and ultimately he managed 5 OK, 5 DB and 2 Borsig on trains, together with the other DB in steam. That left a single known OK (21) which from my own experience was less favoured and was presumably not in use. Fortunately for the overall archive I had the chance to ride it with a mud train in 1994. |
