Semboro Sugar Mill
(700mm gauge)

The mill was completely renovated in the late 1970s and the large steam fleet largely survived the arrival of new Japanese diesels in the 1980s as can be seen in the record in this section. Like Jatiroto, the extensive field lines even offered double track operation. From the early 1990s, steam gradually came out of service until by the end of the decade it was marginal at best. Although beyond the scope of this survey, it is interesting to note that much of the field railway system here and at Jatiroto remains in use well into the 21st century. Jan Willem van Dorp's pictures of Semboro in 1983/4 were a welcome addition in April 2022.
