Rejoagung Sugar Mill
(700mm gauge)

The mill was one of the largest in Java and had a large fleet of steam locomotives, originally being part of the 'empire' of Oei Tiong Ham. At the time of the early visits, most were still active but how much work they did is difficult to ascertain as the enthusiasts had little time spare to look beyond the immediate vicinity of the mill. By the middle 1970s, most were laid up and by 1988 all had been broken up save one, in general the boilers found further use as hot water kettles in local industry. One way and another, it seems I have photographs of all the known locomotives surviving for the first enthusiasts although none would be in the running for a prize in a photographic competition. In September, I was able to add 20 extra pictures from Frank Jones's visits in the early 1970s although the exact dates are not known for certain.
