Merican was still using its field lines when I visited in 1978 but they didn't last much longer. Cane was then delivered to the yard adjacent to the mill and worked to it by steam for many years. This was an attractive operation although eventually the locomotives became worn out and it finished around 2011/2. Click here for a video of the actual mill in operation. |
