Gula Java

What is believed to be the oldest of the sugar drier conveyors, universally known as 'grasshoppers', is found at Rendeng and is said to date from 1884. The trays are mounted at a slight angle and they are shaken by belts which cool and move the sugar along them, drying it as it goes. These days, the belts are driven by electric motors, this view is looking back towards the centrifugals. (RD)
