Gula Java - Final Separation |
||
|
Massecuite from the vacuum pans consists of sugar crystals surrounded by a layer of molasses which will be removed by repeated centrifugation. To extract the maximum amount of product, the molasses will be cycled through several centrifugals before emerging as final molasses (tetes in Indonesian). Low grade sugar is generally recycled into the evaporated syrup, higher grade sugar will be bagged after drying. The oldest centrifugals in Java operate on the batch principle and are usually belt or water driven, sometimes using steam power. Modern electrically driven batch centrifugals are used for commercial sugar, while continuous electrical centrifugals are used for low grade sugar. A number of the old syrup/molasses pumps in these areas are steam powered, more often they are belt driven. |
