Steam at Prajekan 'failed' a couple of years too early for me, I had a taste in 1984 but never had the chance to really savour it. It was the only mill in Java where locomotives were not turned and where empties would predominantly go out smokebox first and fulls return tender first - this was because the cane area mainly lay in the direction of Bondowoso to the south and that represented a considerable 'uphill'. Certainly the three Luttermöllers would have been seen to best advantage on it. Although not properly illustrated, the final locoshed was a 'late build' along with Pagottan, almost certainly the last such on the island. Unfortunately, there was no obvious further user for the heavy Luttermöllers and while some of the 0-8-0Ts moved on, they did not. |
