Pagottan Sugar Mill |
||
|
During the period covered by this survey, Pagottan closed its original mill and erected a newer, second hand one brought from South Sumatra. This led to the need for a new locoshed, with Prajekan, the last such built in Java. The weighbridge was inconveniently placed at the bottom of an incline where the field lines went under the main road which meant that road deliveries had to be reversed down to it. During the 1990s the open area south of the mill was developed as a new road yard and the gantries there were able to weigh the cane as it was transferred from trucks to the loris. Steam was still used in quantity, inititally to bring the loris into the yard from where the Luttermöllers would then propel them to the mill. In time, small diesels took over the yard operation and the three Luttermöllers were converted to fireless operation. By 2021, they would become the last working steam locomotives on the island. Click here for a video of the actual mill in operation. |
