Kanigoro Sugar Mill
(700mm gauge)

Of the nationalised mills, Kanigoro was nearest to Madiun and that meant that its field lines were steadily covered in housing. Arguably, its road delivery system was the least efficient in the area. Cane was delivered next to the mill and then taken out across the road to the weighbridge which was next to the former Ponorogo branch station. It was then taken back to the mill in a large loop around it. For me the greatest attraction here was the mill's mud train which lasted into the 21st century long after other mills (except for Sumberharjo) had gone over to using trucks. One picture that eluded me was one of its locomotives running along their southern field line next to the mill at Pagottan.
