Colomadu Sugar Mill |

Colomadu was a 'royal mill' like Tasikmadu but it always played second fiddle to it. There had been no investment here for many years, not least, because it was recognised that all its cane fields were being swallowed up as Solo sprawled outwards and the field lines closed as early as the end of the 1991 season. The mill itself had used the 750mm gauge and had taken over the 700mm gauge lines of the mill at Kartasura which was an earlier victim of urban expansion by the town of the same name. It was no surprise when the the mill finally closed at the end of the 1997 season, although some of the steam fleet were later transferred to Tasikmadu which had the same 750mm gauge. |
