Cepiring Sugar Mill

Cepiring was one of the few mills to still use the carbonation method to clarify the raw juice. A sure sign of this was a huge pile of limestone which needed to be heated strongly to turn it into quicklime. For this purpose a minimum gauge railway was provided for transport. The picture was taken on 8th August 1988. (RD)
