Cepiring Sugar Mill |

Cepiring was away from most of the other mills west of Semarang and suffered from the move away from sugar in the 1990s, eventually closing at the end of the 1997 season. Although it was right next to the main east-west north coast highway, visitors just dropped by in passing as trains were largely nocturnal and there was no available decent accommodation locally until the final years. The mill reopened later under private ownership but steam locomotives were never part of their business plan. |
