Compared with Gondang, Ceper was some way off the main road with a management that was about as inhospitable as any on the island. Field workings continued to the end and there was also a road delivery yard to the north-west of the mill. Daylight trains were a possibility here but they could run at almost any time and for those with a tight schedule, Gondang offered a more reliable service. Over the years, I collected a fair portfolio but I have to say it was hard going and not at all 'fat' especially as the railway operation was in steep decline through the 1990s and closed with the mill at the end of the 1997 season. |
