Safari Steam North

The Old Calabar River is in south east Nigeria and this locomotive was supplied to the British Crown Agents presumably to assist in the construction of some public works. The locomotive is a distinctive standard design of 0-4-0ST built by Bagnall of Stafford, their construction number 1610 in 1900 and was of 2' 9" gauge. At some point it was named Sir Ralph, but was returned to Bagnalls in 1904. Its later history is unknown but was probably rebuilt and resold 'as new'! (CW1 Collection)
