A view of Boulac shed, Cairo, in 1942/3. The USA-built "Middle East" 2-8-2 is numbered 1174 in the British WD series and was built by Alco in 1942, although has already had a boiler swap as it bears a diamond shaped Lima plate on the smokebox. It was renumbered 9174 in February 1943 and survived to be sent to Turkey in 1946 and renumbered in the TCDD rosters as 46249. (CW1 Collection)
