Hans Hufnagel was with the first recent group to visit the railway in December 2000. The port and old town area are on the further of two islands (Batsa) and here 442.54 crosses the causeway to Twalet. In the background are the ships which bring the freight which grinds up the competing road to Asmara. (HH)
