Stoke Row Steam Rally 2018 |
|
|
This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Click here for the Stoke Row Steam Rally 2018 index and click here for the overall index for 2018. The rally is held just a handful of miles south of the better known Woodcote Rally, not surprisingly we had seen many of these rollers there in 2014. However, it was worth going a long way to see the two 'Shay' rollers together, 'Chimaera' and the Iriquois. splendid machines, both. It was Fowler 17950's first public appearance in steam for 50 years, it is still in exactly the same condition as it was when retired from service and will rightly remain so. For me, it was interesting to read that it had a Java connection, having worked there briefly when new before being returned to the country of its birth. Steam Rollers |
