Showman's Engines
This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). The pool of active showman's engines is not large and the same engines turn up time after time at shows, as you will see, apart from three of the Pat Collins exhibits, there were no 'not seen before' for me this year.
As usual, most of the showman's engines were parked up next to the fairground area where many were hooked up to the power supply of the various rides. Four more were next to organs elsewhere, making a grand total of 26. Conventional photography is not easy, apart from the usual issues, the engines are parked close together, in the event I had to use fill in flash, which I think is the lesser of the two evils.
