Welland Steam Rally (28th - 30th, July 2017)

This is one of a series of pages I have uploaded to illustrate facets of the steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Click here for the 2017 introduction and overall index.

This was our fifth Welland Rally and as before, it was a really special show. Sadly, when I was there on Friday and Saturday, there was almost no sunshine  and conditions made it impossible as in 2016 to get consistently good results. Living not too far away, I could see that Sunday would probably have produced more opportunities between the showers. However, I was otherwise engaged, I was privileged to be invited to take some video of Burrell road locomotive 4010 on its way to the show at South Cerney next week. The resultant video is now on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbIQtUnKcp4. Here is a still picture of Cowcombe Hill, Chalford from a marvellous day out:

The highlight was advertised as the presence of five of the surviving six Pat Collins' engines, and this is the Famous Five with the incredible McLaren Goliath in the middle, it was taken quite early on the Saturday just after the covers came off and before the hordes descended.

David Collidge's Steam Scenes website (http://www.steamscenes.org.uk/) is a fount of information and was a great help in compiling these pages.
