This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to
illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK.
Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily
found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a
handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair
which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Click here for
the overall index for 2017.
The Wiltshire Rally is at the 'small' end of
the scale but has a superb setting (Rainscombe Park, Oare near Marlborough)
with surrounding hills. We had visited this rally on a
very damp day in 2016, when there was steam ploughing, steam threshing
and a saw bench. This year it was disappointing to find a single steam saw
bench and while the day started sunny, there was near complete cloud cover
by 12.00 when we left. This was
well before the scheduled parade in the main ring, unfortunately, there was
very little movement and, with the
rally field running up from south to north, many of the engines were parked
up north facing...
