Preserved Steam Road Engines in Turkey, 2026

Thomas Kautzor presents his first formal reports of the Rahmi M Koç Museum, Istanbul since May 2016 together with other attractions there.

Given that some elements will be of more interest than others to visitors to these pages, I have broken them down into smaller sections.

Notes

Marshall steam roller, 1928, This 'S' type roller originally belonged to the Glyfada Municipality and was afterwards retired to a park there. It was later donated to the museum in 2015.

Unlike the other road engines below which have been exported to Turkey since the 1990s, this came here new.

Aveling and Porter traction engine converted from a roller (10760/1923). It carries the name 'The Lady Devorgilla'.

Fowler steam roller 'Heather' (16961/1927).

Aultman, Taylor traction engine (9302/1910)

Marshall portable engine (46817/1907).

Half scale model of the Burrell road locomotive 4092. Built for the Van Osch Museum in the Netherlands in 20`4 and exhibited there until 2024, The original full size engine was almost the last built by Burrell.
