Into the mixer at the base of the low grade centrifugals goes yet another bag of raw sugar from Thailand. Allowing the mills to purify imported raw sugar may not be the most economic method of solving the national shortage of sugar, but it has the important social effect of preserving jobs in poor rural areas.
