Rubén Martínez Villena Mill

For many years Rubén Martínez Villena Mill had a fortress like mentality which denied admission to all but official visitors. This was most unfortunate because it possessed one of the finest collections of small standard gauge power on the island, working in one of the most attractive patio areas.

Thus on my first visit in 1996, half an hour's patient negotiation with powers that be resulted in a firm 'No', while around us 1207 and 1311 shunted to and fro. We had to be content with a visit to the loading point at Fenix and watching the field train come in via Roble.

A year later, a visit to the mill found the policy reversed with the patio (but not shed) open and we (and others) were quick to take advantage. Unfortunately, this good news was balanced by the closure of Fenix and the mill's dependence on road deliveries to the loading point just outside.
