Of the several mills in the area around the railway junction of Guareiras, René Fraga Mill has by far the most to offer in terms of locomotive interest and activity. While the loading points immediately east of the mill accept most of the cane processed here, there is another loading point some distance away. This requires using the FCC main line negotiating the complex layout at Guareiras and on towards Colón before using mill trackage again. Guareiras is simply one of the most attractive station locations on the island. Traditionally, a train left this loading point in the late afternoon and could be chased virtually all the way home - a very rewarding activity photographically as this record shows. |
