Julio Reyes Cairo Mill

By common consent a visit to Julio Reyes Cairo Mill is currently one of the least pleasant experiences available in Cuba, the crews are extremely mercenary and a number of enthusiasts have lost possessions. It has not always been so...

Until recently the mill used two small European tank engines around the patio (a Borsig and a Henschel) which were well worth making an effort to see. The loading points are quite close to the mill which makes for relatively easy photography when the trains are running. Even by Cuban standards the mill has very limited repair facilities and clearly has had problems keeping its steam locomotives running and has often had to borrow and acquire locomotives from elsewhere.
