Steam in Uruguay - ANP 1

Marcelo Benoit, Uruguayan Railfan Association Email mmbenoit@adinet.com.uy reported at length on ANP 1's prolonged overhaul and eventual return to operation. This page covers the period August 1997 to April 2000, being taken from the original Uruguayan page to economise on space. Pictures of ANP 1's inaugural trip on 3rd June 2000 are also available.

0-6-0T ANP 1 (Orenstein & Koppel, 1912) being repaired from 8/97 by Uruguayan Railfan Association (A.U.A.R.). The locomotive was designated a historic national landmark on March 9th 1999 (the first such locomotive).  The pictures show it in the Bella Vista works where the job was reported 'quite advanced' in June 1999, it was due for completion around the end of the year. The first shows the sad sight of the loco before restoration on 11th February 1994, the second was taken on 23rd August 1997, the third was taken in January 1998, the next two in September 1998, the rest during 1999 and early 2000.
