Southern Africa Steam Picture Parade 2012

Fabrice Lanoue was in Southern Africa in late March and early April 2012. Here are some of the highlights of his trip concentrating on the 'real' and lesser known attractions.

The Sappi Saiccor paper mill at Umkomaas, South Africa

On 27th March, the locomotive in use was #2.

The Victoria Falls Safari Express, Zimbabwe/Zambia

14A 512 has recently been retubed and was running a charity special on 30th March.

Royal Livingstone Express locomotives 156 and 204, Zambia

On 30th March, 156 was still warm after the Wednesday train and 204 was scheduled to run the Saturday train.

Hwange Colliery Railway, Zimbabwe

On 31st March, 15A #11 was in action...

BCL, Selebi Phikwe, Botswana

On 3rd April, 19D 2689, recently purchased from South Africa was under repair and expected to enter service within a month, it will become LO 812. There is another 19D awaiting repair which will become LO 813 in due course.

LO 804 and LO 806 were in use, the pictures show LO 804 in action, LO 897 was due to be back in action around 10th April.
