Keith Smith has previously (2007) provided some
pictures of exhibits, these from Colin Young show steam locomotives which
hopefully one day will be restored, at least cosmetically. If anyone can
provide some identification, it would be appreciated, I (RD) have only the
barest of knowledge about Greek steam.
The S160 were 2-8-0s for the United States Army Transportation Corps which saw service throughout Europe and other parts of the world, some 2120 being built mainly during the period 1942 - 1945. 27 came to Greece for the then Hellenic State Railway (HSR) in 1947 and were later joined by 25 which had been working for the FS in Italy. The website steamlocomotive.info records HSR 525, 535 and 593 as being here, which agrees in part with what is said below. More information on the S160 is to be found in Tourret'sbook "Allied Military Locomotives of the Second World War).. An unnumbered 4-6-0 in the museum area, this should be 4 cylinder PDS 306 according to steamlocomotive.info.
An unidentified locomotive probably a USA 0-6-0T under restoration:
USA S160 2-8-0, No 535 (probably USA / TC 2226)
UK WD 2-10-0 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WD_Austerity_2-10-0 suggests 955 and 966 here, take your pick)
US S160 2-8-0 No 3420 (should have become HSR 584 but known to have been HSR 592)
Italian Breda-Ansaldo 2-10-2
US S160 2-8-0 No 2924 (unlikely to be correct as this one went to Hungary, MAV)
US S160 2-8-0 HSR No (A) 525 (was USA/TC 2206 and hauled a LCGB special in 1980)
