Zafra 2000 - Trinidad Tourist Train

The Trinidad tourist train in action has proved to be quite elusive for many visitors over the years, but not for Peter Illert, these pictures were taken on 8th March.

1. This is 1551 at derelict Trinidad station at its home base where it sits between the turns throughout the week.. The carriage though has a weather-protected and safe place in the railcar shed.

2. This shows the train creeping over the big iron bridge in the outskirts of Trinidad.

3.During a stop at the slave tower at Manaca Iznaga, a busload of German tourists has forced their driver to open the doors.

4.Waiting for the passengers to return

5.Tourist attraction!

6. Also at Iznaga, after turning the engine the train climbs the gradient to the station which is situated on the top of a hill (the slave tower was erected as a lookout on the point which had the best visibility).

7. Iznaga station

8. Nearing Trinidad again - this is taken from the main Cienfuegos - Trinidad highway.
