Preserved Steam in Brazil

Jose Beraldo has sent some more pictures of ABPF's preservation activities in Campinas (SP). Helio Gazetta Filho contributed three later pictures (27th September 2001)

"Here I'm sending two additional shots of ABPF's Viação Ferrea Campinas-Jaguariuna, featuring two of its heaviest engines in use. Nr. 50 is Henschel 0-10-0 bld.nr.21687, year 1930 and nr. 505 is Schwartzkopf 2-8-2, built 1927, both woodburners. The photos were taken on May 21, 1995 by Eduardo Beraldo (my son, then only 12 years old) in the terminal at Anhumas, very close to Campinas, where the trains depart and arrive to and from Jaguariuna, distant nearly 24 km.

These engines are employed for the passenger trains of wooden cars, which were donated to ABPF by some RFFSA's regionals, and came from Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais and São Paulo. The railroad is going strong, with trains running every weekend and with some rebuilding being carried out at the railways'own shops at Carlos Gomes. Without any doubt, this is the biggest live museum of South America."
