Mike Clendining reports:
Just returned from Argentina, below some up- to- date info on Ushuaia and Chubut remains. Ushuaia tourist line was doing very good business with two large cruise ships, and a couple of smaller ones in port. The first departure of the day (7 Feb) around 11.00 left fully loaded in three sections with all of the line's steam power out on the line. The cruise ship excursions run one way from Ushuaia to the national park where passengers are met by their tour buses. I enclose photos, also two old boilers at Ushuaia end of the line. No idea what they are. Central of Chubut Railway (metre gauge) 2-6-0 No 3 (Beyer Peacock 2964 of 1888) is displayed at the old station in Puerto Madryn which is beautifully preserved as a museum. There are detailed pictures available here http://railwaysofthefarsouth.co.uk/02x7locodetails.html. At Trelew the station is also preserved as a museum where I was warmly welcomed by the two staff named Pugh and Rhys. The 600mm gauge 0-6-0T locomotive displayed outside worked a construction branch to a dam at the upper end of the line for part of its life.
