Porta's First Steam Locomotive

L.D. Porta's very first locomotive, metre gauge 4-8-0 'Argentina' is the subject of an appeal to bring it from Tucuman to Buenos Aires for conservation and eventual restoration according to Martyn Bane (27th December 2004). The story made the on-line UK Guardian newspaper (http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,,1379887,00.html) As of 18th February 2005, more than half the money needed to finance the move had been raised, about GBP £3000 more was needed, however sad news (25th March 2005) was that fund raising activities were suspended on 18th March 2005 owing to persistent 'attacks' on the loco which have left it no more than a shell.
