Having found just one MacArthur in steam at Thung Song, it was perhaps unsurprising that the best we could turn up at Surat Thani in June 1977 was Japanese Mogul 702 as spare locomotive. In fact, visitors up till 1982 were able to find occasional steam workings in the south of the country. (RD)
