Safari Steam North

North from Tororo runs a branch line which originally ran only to Soroti. However, it was extended in the 1960s as far as Pakwach on the Nile, the intention being to replace the river services which were unreliable when the river level fell. However, the country here was not densely populated and traffic levels were low. A 31 class takes the train on the first stage of the journey as far as Soroti in January 1968. (BR)
