By 1st April 1980, steam was very thin on the ground as the Butere branch and the Fort Ternan pick up were dieselised. The weekly engineer's train leaving Kisumu on Monday morning had been my target for several weeks running until I finally caught it on the viaduct above Fort Ternan. (RD)
