Safari Steam North

Much of the landscape traversed by the 950mm gauge Eritrean railway is bleak and barren. One of the final Mallets delivered to the line rolls towards the capital and railway headquarters at Asmara on 6th March 1967. The line was built during the Italian colonial period which explains the otherwise unusual gauge. (JW)
