Some time earlier, on 26th April 1997, two ex-SAR 19D class line up outside the shed. Initially operations were concentrated at the Phikwe end, with three shafts and a power station. A further two shafts were later opened in turn at Selebi, some 16km away. The whole area was subject to (private) security but photographic permission was readily granted and good roads allowed easy access to the line. (TS) |
