'Steam in Africa' records that as late as 1972, the railway had 108 steam locomotives and just 4 small diesel shunters such as that seen here at Lobito docks. By 1975, the western section from Lobito to Silva Porto was due to have been largely dieselised, a plan later made irrelevant by war. (BR)
