Old Warden Steam Rally 2025 |
|
|
This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Click here for the Old Warden 2025 index and click here for the overall 2025 index. If there was any feeling of disappointment at all at what was served up, it would have been what I would call 'working engines'. When we first came just over 10 years ago, there was steam ploughing, stone crushing, threshing and steam sawing in some quantity, now what is on offer is outshone by the rallies at Weeting, Welland and probably Shrewsbury too. Finally, there were seven steam cars listed in the programme and I made no attempt to check their presence (or not) but I did stumble on five of them running round the arena at about 12.50 on Friday and I photographed all of them. I have no idea whether the other two were present or not and I had no time to check. Similarly, there was no time to check the gallopers with its centre engine or the 'just for fun' new builds. |
