This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to
illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK.
Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily
found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a
handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair
which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Click
here for the Old Warden 2025 index and click here for the overall
2025 index.
The line up of showman's engines here used to be second only to that at the Great Dorset Steam
Fair, these days the number here and at Welland tend to be similar at just over
20, both having 21 in 2025.
Of course, the number available without paying
extortionate appearance fees is limited and Old Warden staged something of a
coup in attracting Fowler 14588 'Enterprise' which had not been seen on the
rally field for very many years. It appeared externally unrestored, one of just
a few which display their original patina.
This is what the gricers were photographing as
seen on the menu page, a pair of engines which once worked for Thurstons. Having
achieved that goal, they sent out for a third engine.
