The International Steam Pages

Bressingham Steam Portable Gathering
The Gardens

This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches).  Click here for the for the Bressingham Steam Portable Gathering Index and click here for the overall index for 2023.

Our other visits here had been in June and July, so this was the latest time (August) that we had been during the 'summer'. I have to say that, despite some negatives comments on 'Tripadvisor', the gardens were as good as ever and, if anything, even more colourful than before. These days, the trees tend to screen passing trains, in turn you don't get much of a view while riding on them. We indulged ourselves with rides on all three (narrow gauge / miniature) trains which were running but by then the sun had vanished behind clouds and eventually it started to rain, we took the hint and returned to base....

Yes, some beds were less than full of plants but it's simply unrealistic to expect every square centimetre to have a bloom in it, even display plants have to be rotated.

Imagine having this as your front garden, it must be heavenly. Yuehong loved the different kinds of phlox...

Much of the colours were massed single ones.

However, I have to say, we preferred combinations of summer colours.

To us there were clear signs that they had a programme to deter deer from visiting, but there was no indication what the white substance in the plastic bag was. That's a shame, we could do with some of it as our roses have a lot fewer leaves than this specimen.
