This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to
illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK.
Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily
found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a
handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair
which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Click
here for the Welland index and click here for
the overall 2023 index.
As in 2022, the website was (and is) still inaccurately advertising
"Over 20 of the Showman's Engines" but this year there were a few
more (18 as opposed to 15 in 2022) but I guess that not many people count
them. With no representatives of either the Saunders or Scarborough
collections present, it was unsurprising.
Showman's Engines
Off the top of my head, I don't think there
will be a better line up anywhere else in 2023.
The freak show was a nice touch. In these days
of political correctness, I assume that the display of traditional
exhibits such as dwarfs and bearded ladies is now frowned on and as such
business was slow.
