Northleach Steam Show, (7th - 8th June, 2019)
This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). The Northleach Show is at the 'small' end of the scale, a recent revival of a rally which had faded away in 2000. I had no great expectations, according to a Traction Talk Forum posting 2017 had produced a dozen engines and in the event this year's programme suggested 11 (plus one which I think was a large miniature) of which 8 were actually present. The setting is attractive but the rally has yet to acquire steam 'critical mass'. As such I spent a pleasant hour and a half watching water being boiled and 'Atlantia' on the saw bench and chatting to any owner who would put up with me. As can be seen most of the engines were well placed for photography.For those with a broader interest than I have, there were plenty of cars, motor bikes, commercials and miniatures. Wallis 'Progress' was not in steam as can be seen, it had suffered a broken piston rod at GDSF, fortunately without any serious consequences.
Afterwards, with the parade scheduled for much later at 15.30, Yuehong and I went to Chastleton House near Stow-on-the-Wold on our National Trust membership, which, I confess was at least as interesting.
