Wiltshire Steam and Vintage Rally,

June, 2019)
This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). The Wiltshire Rally is at the 'small' end of the scale but was well worth a visit in 2016 with a strong working area with the setting (Rainscombe Park, Oare near Marlborough) superb with surrounding hills. However, the 2019 was to put it mildly a disappointment. There were just 7 engines in the programme and of these three were 'no shows', two sadly because of a family bereavement. So there were just 4 engines present of which 'Progress' would have run a saw bench. My original plan had been to crack off some pictures in the early sun just after the rally opened at 09.00, then visit nearby Avebury before returning later. In the event, we were gone just after 09.30 and later went on to Stoke Row instead.
There was a nice mixture of engines, but the damp conditions meant that there was no movement during our visit which was well before the scheduled parade in the main ring.
