Torbay Steam Fair 2018
Working Steam

This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Click here for the Torbay 2018 index and click here for the overall index for 2018.

Torbay had a working area which would put many a larger rally to shame, it's the best of any rally of this size we have seen.

Steam Ploughing

Two ploughing engines were using a Fowler cultivator. It was unfortunate that they chose to do only one session in the late morning which I missed as I was relaxing to avoid the high sun watching the Grand Parade. Fowlers 1368/1970 "Margaret" and 14694/1918 were at work.

Steam Threshing

Burrell 3816/1919 "Cornish Maid" (top of page) was working a Foster threshing machine, assisted by Robey portable 37958/1918.

Saw Benches

Burrell 2662/1904 "Attraction" (seen on the index page) was working next to Burrell 4014/1925 "Pride of Devon" and was used to slice up the offcuts for firewood.

Wallis and Steevens 8052/1930 "East Lothian Star" was in the same enclosure

Road Making

Aveling and Porter 11216/1925 was shuffling up and down presumably sealing a section of the track through the farm.
