Great North Steam Fair 2017
On the Rails

This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to illustrate facets of steam rallies in the UK. Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Neil writes:

"On the 2ft (610mm) narrow gauge, which is located in the Pit Village, visiting locomotives ‘Diana’ 0-4-0T (Kerr Stuart #1158/1917), from the Bala Lake Railway, and ‘Roger’ 0-4-0ST (Kerr Stuart #3128/1918), from Statfold Barn, having been re-patriated from Canada, last year, for the second time. The latter presumably whilst on route to the Apedale Railway, for their Kerr Stuart gala. Part restored, ex-Granton Gas Works, Edinburgh No.5 ‘Esme’ 0-4-0 (Andrew Barclay #988 of 1903) was on a flat wagon, occasionally forming the load for the active steam. On the adjacent SG, replica ‘Puffing Billy’ 4wG (Alan Keef 2006), top and tailed with, 0-4-0VB (Head Wrightson 1871) on an authentic rake of wagons.

Another replica ‘Samson’ 600mm gauge 0-4-0WTg (Beamish 2016) was in steam on a short length of track adjacent to the Pockerley Waggonway, where replica ‘Locomotion’ (Locomotion Enterprises #1/1975), was the transport of delight.

At Rowley Station, ‘Bon Accord’ 0-4-0ST (Andrew Barclay #897 of 1897) was paired with a single coach, giving visitors a ride on the short section of track."

Tram

The normal tram service was running, this being a local example from Sunderland Transport.

Standard Gauge

		Bon Accord, its skirts originate from its time at the Aberdeen Gas Works.
		Head Wrightson VB locomotive
