This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to
illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK.
Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily
found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a
handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair
which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Click here for the Lincoln index and
click
here for the overall index.
A
particular feature at Lincoln is the number of showman's engines which are
used to generate electricity to power mechanical organs and these are shown
under 'Working Engines' in addition to those below. This section also
includes the showman's tractors, as far as I can see their main distinction
is that the latter may not be fitted with generators. A number of these are
conversions in that they started off life as steam rollers, a process which
does not always go down well with traditionalists. As a newcomer to the
hobby, I adopt a neutral stance.
These were distributed between the steam engine and fairground area.
