Working Engines

This is one of a series of pages which I have uploaded to illustrate facets of steam rallies we have attended in the UK. Such events occur all over the country in the summer months, they are easily found by using your favourite search engine and may have anything between a handful of steam engines and hundreds (as at the Great Dorset Steam Fair which could probably be fairly described as having an excess of riches). Saw Benches

.Three saw benches were working, a welcome sight.

				Aveling and Porter ( 9096/1920) with a Denning of Chard bench
				Burrell (2003/1897) with a Stenner of Tiverton bench.
				Foster (2728/1903) with a Marshall of Gainsborough bench and Cowans Shildon hand crane

Showman's Engines

Fowler 'Lion' was working the big wheel, Burrell 'Progress' was working an 89 key Marenghi organ and Garrett 'Verity' had its belt running for its lights (but it's a good picture), the yachts I believe were running off a generator..

Centre Engine

Almost all the traditional gallopers we have seen have used Savage engines, but this set which seems to be a regular feature here uses a Tidman engine. I didn't notice how the Gavioli organ was powered.

Playpen loads

With all that road locomotive power available, it would be great to see more of this kind of thing. The engine is Burrell "The Badger".
